Tarot For Mutual Aid
Offering tarot readings to immediately support a disabled community member.
“Mutual aid is collective coordination to meet each other’s needs, usually from an awareness that the systems we have in place are not going to meet them.” — Dean Spade
Mutual aid and showing up for my friends and community are important to me. If you are a part of this space, I want you to know you are not alone. We rely entirely on each other to survive which means we have to reimagine our survival because government structures routinely fail to provide basic necessities. In the face of increasing systemic abandonment, we need to start envisioning our own radical systems of care. Leah Piepzna-Samarasinha centers this reality in The Future is Disabled. I am interested in being in community where we discover new ways to keep each other safe, housed, and supported.
Disability and changing physical capacity are natural, expected parts of living. Whether someone currently identifies as disabled or not, we will all eventually require some form of community care. Waiting for a crisis to hit before establishing these connections leaves people without housing or food. Redistributing funds is one way we can show up for others, alongside building deep relationships and maintaining an active presence in each other’s lives. Knowing we have people to rely on brings genuine relief. We are actively choosing to build a reality where our community remains safe and supported.
Our power exists in our collective organizing and our direct material support for one another, as Leanne Betasamosake Simpson outlines in As We Have Always Done. We establish the world we want to live in by taking direct action and acting as if that world is present right now. Supporting someone’s basic survival needs is a way we can practice resistance in real time.
One of my besties, a fellow Brittany (Brittany Wolf) located in Portland, Oregon is in need of immediate help. Britt and their partner River (who was recently involved in a serious car accident) are multiply disabled. We are pushing hard in these final days to raise $3,000 CAD to help cover rent, housing costs, utilities, groceries, and recovery-related expenses.
Systemic ableism isolates individuals during medical emergencies. Leaving recovering people to navigate sudden financial deficits is a systemic failure that we must disrupt through direct funding. We do not abandon people when their physical bodies require prolonged rest and medical care. Funding a community member’s rent and groceries is a critical act of political resistance.
Having access to food and housing is a basic human right. When the structures fail, it is up to us to create new ways to be there for each other and new ways of organizing in community.
I am offering tarot readings to redistribute funds directly to Britt’s recovery. You can offer support by booking a reading or donating directly:
A single card pull is $10.
A 3-card reading is $20.
A full reading is $40.
Direct financial contributions of any amount are urgently needed.
